Glazing combines workshop skills — measuring, cutting, processing — with installation work from house windows to commercial shopfronts, and most experienced glaziers learned all of it on the job. Recognition of Prior Learning lets that experience be assessed toward a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing (confirm the current version on training.gov.au). Glazier (ANZSCO 333111) appears on the skilled occupation lists, including the Core Skills Occupation List.

What the qualification covers

Glass selection, measuring, cutting and processing; installing glass in residential windows and doors; commercial framing systems, shopfronts and curtain-wall glazing; mirrors, splashbacks and special products; re-glazing and emergency work; and the safety layer that defines the trade in Australia — safety glass requirements for human-impact areas, correct product selection and compliance marking. The qualification is issued by an ASQA-regulated Registered Training Organisation once evidence meets the standard — WIDEN is not an RTO and plays no part in the assessment.

The evidence glaziers actually need

Workshop and site photo evidence — cutting and processing in progress, framing and installation stages, finished commercial and residential work
Range — residential and commercial, framed and frameless, shopfront/curtain-wall work where claimed
Safety-glass awareness in the evidence itself — jobs showing correct product choice in impact areas carry weight beyond their size
Employer references with dates and duties, or invoices and business records for self-employed glaziers
A practical demonstration is common — clean cutting, safe handling and sealing quality are judged in person

RPL versus the TRA skills assessment

For migration, the assessment that matters is Trades Recognition Australia’s for 333111 — a separate process from the Certificate III. Whether you need one, both, or neither is a sequencing question — start with a free assessment.

Common questions

Can a glazier get a Certificate III through RPL?

Yes. An experienced glazier can use Recognition of Prior Learning toward a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing (confirm the current qualification version on training.gov.au), issued by a Registered Training Organisation after it assesses your evidence.

What makes glazing evidence strong?

Range and safety context: cutting and processing, residential and commercial installation, shopfronts and framing systems, and evidence you work to Australian safety-glass requirements — human-impact areas, marked safety glass, correct glass selection. A practical demonstration is common because cutting and handling are judged in person.

Is the Certificate III the same as a TRA skills assessment for migration?

No. The Certificate III is a VET qualification issued by an RTO. The migration skills assessment for Glazier (ANZSCO 333111) is conducted separately by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). One can support the other, but they are different processes — whether you need both depends on your visa pathway.

Does WIDEN issue the qualification or run the assessment?
