  • Note: State-based engineering registration may apply to practise; this is separate from the migration skills assessment.
  • RPL relevant: Limited — see below (Engineers Australia assesses via a recognised/accredited qualification or the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR), not VET RPL. A CDR must be entirely your own work — third-party ghostwriting breaches Engineers Australia’s rules and can result in a ban.)

Industrial Engineer (ANZSCO 233511) is a Skill Level 1 engineering occupation covering the optimisation of complex processes, systems and production. For skilled migration the assessing authority is Engineers Australia. Widen Migration (MARN 1576536) helps engineers navigate the assessment pathways.

The skills assessment & RPL pathway for Industrial Engineer

For Industrial Engineer (ANZSCO 233511), Engineers Australia assesses your engineering qualification. If it is accredited under the Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord (or otherwise recognised), assessment is by qualification. Otherwise, you demonstrate engineering competencies through a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) comprising three career episodes, a summary statement and continuing professional development.

This is not VET RPL. The CDR is Engineers Australia’s own process and must be entirely your own work — plagiarised or ghostwritten CDRs are detected and can lead to a ban. Registration to practise as an engineer is separate again, under state schemes in some jurisdictions.

No Australian qualification yet? RPL for Industrial Engineer

Experienced workers can have overseas or on-the-job work assessed by a Registered Training Organisation toward the Australian qualification for the occupation (Recognition of Prior Learning) — useful only when it lines up with the skills assessment above and the visa. Fees are set by each RTO; WIDEN is a migration practice, not an RTO, and does not sell or recommend providers.

Once Industrial Engineer is positively assessed, the assessment supports a points-tested or employer-sponsored skilled visa. The right one depends on your points, age, state nomination and whether an employer will sponsor you.

Speak with WIDEN

Discuss your migration pathway with WIDEN

Fields marked * are required. WIDEN does not assist with the Engineers Australia skills assessment in any way — the application, evidence preparation, and outcome are entirely Engineers Australia's domain. WIDEN provides migration advice (visa subclass strategy, points test, EOI, occupation list) — separate from the skills assessment process.

General information only, not migration advice. ANZSCO codes and assessing-authority arrangements change (ANZSCO is transitioning to OSCA) and skilled occupation lists are updated periodically — confirm the current code, authority and requirements for your situation. Skills assessments are conducted by the relevant assessing authority and RPL qualifications are issued by Registered Training Organisations, not by WIDEN. No qualification or assessment guarantees a visa. Migration advice is provided by Keshab Chapagain (MARN 1576536) only after a paid consultation under a written service agreement.

Questions we get asked first

Do I need a CDR if my degree is accredited?

Generally no. If your qualification is accredited under the Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord (or otherwise recognised by Engineers Australia), you can usually be assessed on the qualification pathway without a full CDR. If it is not recognised, the CDR pathway applies.

Can someone write my CDR for me?

No. A Competency Demonstration Report must be your own work. Engineers Australia actively checks for plagiarism and ghostwriting, and dishonest CDRs can result in refusal and a ban on reapplying. A migration agent can advise on the process, but the engineering content must be genuinely yours.
