600 Tourist stream vs 600 Sponsored Family stream
Same visa, two streams. The tourist stream is applied for from inside or outside Australia with no sponsor, on the applicant’s own funds and ties, and is the simpler route for a parent who can show them. The sponsored family stream is applied for from outside Australia with an Australian citizen or permanent resident relative as sponsor, who may be asked for a security bond, and it carries condition 8503 as standard; it helps a parent whose own funds or ties are thin, at the cost of a longer wait, the bond and no onshore application for anything afterwards. A parent with their own means uses the tourist stream; a parent the Department would doubt uses the sponsored stream with a sponsor who can carry the bond.

Which side of that line you fall on depends on facts a table cannot hold — your age, score, occupation's lists, and what evidence you can actually assemble. That is consultation territory, not guesswork territory.
