Request a waiver of condition 8503 vs Leave and apply from outside Australia
Condition 8503 on a visitor or other temporary visa stops most onshore applications, and the holder who now wants a partner, parent or other visa has two routes. The waiver is granted only where compelling and compassionate circumstances arose after the visa was granted, outside the holder’s control, and made leaving unreasonable: a serious illness, a death, a disaster, a child’s need; wanting to stay, a new relationship or a job offer is not enough, and a refused waiver cannot be reviewed. Leaving and applying from outside Australia works for every visa that can be lodged offshore, at the cost of the departure, the wait abroad and visits on a visitor visa. The waiver is for the rare case that fits its words; the offshore application is the ordinary answer.

Which side of that line you fall on depends on facts a table cannot hold — your age, score, occupation's lists, and what evidence you can actually assemble. That is consultation territory, not guesswork territory.
