TRA Pathway 1 (no Australian qualification) vs TRA Pathway 2 (an Australian qualification)
Trades Recognition Australia’s offshore and employer-sponsored programs run two pathways set by the applicant’s qualification. Pathway 1 is for a tradesperson without an Australian qualification in the trade, who is assessed on documents and, for most occupations, a technical interview or a practical assessment conducted by an approved assessor, often overseas; Pathway 2 is for a tradesperson who holds a relevant Australian qualification, or in some programs an Australian licence, and is assessed on documents alone. The pathway is not chosen; the qualification decides it, and the program, offshore, employer-sponsored or the migration skills assessment, decides whether the pathways apply at all. The programs changed in 2026 and the current TRA guidance governs.

Which side of that line you fall on depends on facts a table cannot hold — your age, score, occupation's lists, and what evidence you can actually assemble. That is consultation territory, not guesswork territory.
