RPL by location

State-specific licensing & nomination context for your RPL pathway

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) qualifications are nationally recognised and migration skills-assessing authorities are national — so your city doesn't change which qualification you get or which authority assesses your occupation. What does differ by state is licensing/registration for licensed trades and state nomination (190/491). These guides set out that state-specific context.

WIDEN works with clients across Australia and offshore by phone and video. Browse your city below, or start from your occupation or your assessing authority.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to live in a particular city for RPL?

No. Recognition of Prior Learning qualifications are nationally recognised, and Registered Training Organisations assess candidates Australia-wide and often offshore. Where you live does not change the qualification. What varies by state is licensing/registration for licensed trades and state nomination (190/491).

Does where I live change my skills assessment?

No. Migration skills-assessing authorities (TRA, ACS, VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ANMAC, AITSL and others) are national and assess the same way regardless of your city. Your nominated occupation determines the authority, not your location.

What actually differs between states?

Two things mainly: state licensing/registration for licensed trades (different bodies in each state — for example a builder or electrician licence), and state nomination for the 190 and 491 visas (each state and territory runs its own program and occupation lists). In Western Australia, VET RTOs are also regulated by the Training Accreditation Council rather than ASQA.

Does WIDEN only work with clients in one city?

No. WIDEN is a registered migration practice that works with clients across Australia and offshore by phone and video. Migration advice is not location-bound. These location pages exist to set out the state-specific licensing and nomination context relevant to your RPL pathway.

General information only, not migration advice. RPL qualifications are issued by Registered Training Organisations and skills assessments by the relevant assessing authority — not by WIDEN. State licensing bodies and requirements change — confirm current requirements for your situation. Migration advice is provided by Keshab Chapagain (MARN 1576536) after a paid consultation under a written service agreement.
