  • Occupation: Enrolled Nurse
  • ANZSCO code: 411411
  • Skill level: Skill Level 2 (diploma)
  • Assessing authority: ANMAC
  • Note: Registered profession — registration via AHPRA/NMBA. Migration skills assessment is separate and conducted by ANMAC.
  • RPL relevant: Limited — see below (An Enrolled Nurse qualification cannot be obtained through pure VET Recognition of Prior Learning. It requires a Diploma of Nursing (or equivalent) delivered to NMBA-approved standards plus registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA. While the Diploma of Nursing is a VET-level qualification, it must be completed as an accredited, supervised clinical program — it is not awarded by RPL alone. ANMAC assesses qualifications for migration only and does not register you to practise.)

Enrolled Nurse, ANZSCO 411411, provides nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses, requiring a Diploma of Nursing or equivalent and registration with the NMBA via AHPRA. It is a registered profession. For skilled migration, ANMAC is the assessing authority.

The skills assessment & RPL pathway for Enrolled Nurse

For migration, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) assesses whether your nursing qualifications and experience match Australian standards for ANZSCO 411411. ANMAC offers full and modified assessment pathways and generally requires at least 3 months and 260 hours of relevant paid work within the last 5 years. An ANMAC outcome supports a points-tested or sponsored visa application; it does not by itself permit you to work as a nurse in Australia.

Registration is separate. To practise as an enrolled nurse you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through AHPRA, meeting English language, qualification and competency requirements. The underpinning qualification is a Diploma of Nursing delivered to NMBA-approved standards with supervised clinical placement — it is not something awarded through pure RPL of existing experience. We help you confirm the ANZSCO code, prepare the ANMAC assessment, and understand how it interacts with AHPRA registration and your visa pathway.

Frequently asked questions

Is an Enrolled Nurse the same as a Registered Nurse?

No. An Enrolled Nurse (ANZSCO 411411) holds a Diploma of Nursing and works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, who is degree-qualified. They are separate occupations with different ANZSCO codes, scopes of practice, and qualification requirements, though both require AHPRA/NMBA registration to practise in Australia.

Can I become an Enrolled Nurse purely through RPL?

No. The Diploma of Nursing must be completed as an accredited program with supervised clinical placement to NMBA-approved standards. Pure Recognition of Prior Learning from past work experience does not award the qualification, and you must still obtain AHPRA/NMBA registration separately to practise.

Does ANMAC registration mean I can start nursing work immediately?

No. An ANMAC skills assessment is for migration and visa purposes only. Before working as an enrolled nurse you must separately gain registration from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA, which assesses your qualifications, English and competency against its own requirements.
