The Subclass 482 Skills in Demand Visa allows approved Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers to fill labour shortages when suitably qualified Australian workers are not available. This temporary visa is designed to address immediate workforce needs in priority occupations and provides a pathway for eligible applicants to contribute to Australia’s economy.

Overview of Basic Eligibility

To qualify for the Skills in Demand (Subclass 482) visa, applicants must:

• Be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor

• Possess the necessary skills, qualifications, and experience for the role

• Meet relevant English language requirements

• Meet any income threshold and occupation list criteria applicable to the chosen stream

Subclass 482 Streams

Core Skills Stream

This stream allows employers to address labour shortages by sponsoring foreign workers to fill roles that appear on the Core Skills Occupation List.

• Stay: Up to 4 years (5 years for Hong Kong passport holders)

• Cost: From AUD 3,115.00

• Processing Time: Varies by application, refer to the visa processing time guide

• Occupation Requirements: Must be listed on the Core Skills Occupation List

Specialist Skills Stream

The Specialist Skills Stream enables employers to sponsor skilled workers for occupations listed under the ANZSCO classification, excluding occupations in Major Groups 3, 7 or 8, where the nominated salary meets the Specialist Skills Income Threshold.

• Stay: Up to 4 years (5 years for Hong Kong passport holders)

• Cost: From AUD 3,115.00
