What's inside
- ACS pathways: standard skills assessment for ICT-qualified candidates; RPL for non-ICT majors with significant ICT experience; recognition of ICT degrees from non-Australian institutions.
- ANZSCO mapping: how to select the right ANZSCO for ACS — and why this is the most common reason for a wasted assessment.
- Qualification level: how ACS classifies qualifications (closely related, ICT major, ICT minor, non-ICT).
- Deductions: the years of post-qualification employment ACS deducts before counting "skilled" employment, broken down by qualification level.
- RPL framework: the four ICT knowledge areas, the project reports ACS expects, and the structure that tends to succeed.
- Employment evidence: what ACS expects in employment references, duties statements, and pay evidence.
- Common refusal patterns and what a reassessment typically requires.

Frequently asked questions
Is this migration advice on my specific ACS skills assessment?
No. The Playbook is general information about the published ACS assessment framework. Whether a specific candidate is well-positioned for a positive ACS outcome is individual and requires advice on the candidate's qualifications, work experience and target ANZSCO.
Does it guarantee a positive ACS outcome?
No. ACS assessment decisions are made by the Australian Computer Society on their published criteria. Section 15 of the Migration Agents Code of Conduct 2022 prohibits any guarantee of outcome by a registered migration agent. The Playbook helps candidates understand the framework; the assessment decision is not WIDEN's to give.
Does it cover RPL applications to ACS?
Yes. ACS RPL — where ACS recognises non-ICT qualifications + significant ICT work experience — is covered in detail, including the gap-year deductions ACS applies for non-ICT major fields.
