The Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. This visa allows you to live, work, and study anywhere in Australia, sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence, and apply for Australian citizenship if eligible.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the Subclass 190 visa, you must:

  • Be nominated by an Australian state or territory government

  • Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect

  • Be invited to apply for the visa

  • Have an occupation on the relevant skilled list

  • Hold a valid skills assessment for your nominated occupation

  • Be under 45 years of age at the time of invitation

  • Score at least 65 points on the points test

  • Have at least competent English

  • Meet health and character requirements

  • Sign the Australian values statement

  • Have no outstanding debts to the Australian Government


State and Territory Nomination

Each state and territory has its own requirements and occupations in demand. Once you submit an EOI, you may be contacted for nomination by:

  • Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

  • New South Wales

  • Northern Territory

  • Queensland

  • South Australia

  • Tasmania

  • Victoria

  • Western Australia

Once nominated, you’ll receive an invitation to apply for the visa.


Including Family Members

You can include family members in your application, including:

  • Spouse or de facto partner

  • Dependent children or stepchildren

All included family members must meet the health and character criteria. You may add family members after submitting your application and before it is decided.


How Long You Can Stay

  • This is a permanent visa

  • Travel validity is 5 years from the grant date

  • After 5 years, apply for a Resident Return Visa (subclass 155 or 157) to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
