What Is an ACS RPL and Why Do You Need One?
If you are an ICT professional without a formal Australian ICT qualification, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) requires you to submit a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) report as part of your skills assessment for Australian migration.
An ACS RPL report consists of two key components:
Demonstrates your ICT knowledge across the ACS Core Body of Knowledge (CBOK) — covering areas like programming, ICT management, systems development, and professional ethics.
Detailed accounts of two real ICT projects you have worked on — one within the last 3 years and one within the last 5 years — demonstrating your practical skills and competencies.
⚠️ ACS rejects thousands of RPL reports every year due to plagiarism and poor structure. A rejected application can result in a 12-month ban from reapplying — getting it right the first time is critical.
Who Needs to Submit an ACS RPL?
You need an ACS RPL report if you fall into one of these categories:
You have a bachelor's degree in a non-ICT field but have at least 6 years of relevant professional ICT work experience.
You do not hold a recognised degree but have at least 8 years of relevant professional ICT work experience.
You are applying for a Skilled Independent (189), Skilled Nominated (190), or Regional (491) visa in an ICT occupation.
Your ICT qualification is not recognised by ACS as equivalent to an Australian ICT degree, but you have substantial relevant work experience.

Why ICT Professionals Choose Widen for Their ACS RPL
We're not an offshore writing mill. We're a MARA-registered migration agency that writes ACS RPL reports as part of a complete migration service.
Your RPL is reviewed by Keshab Chapagain (MARN 1576536) — a registered migration agent who understands the full migration picture, not just the report.
We use advanced AI tools to structure your Key Areas of Knowledge and project reports from your intake information — faster turnaround without sacrificing quality.
Once your ACS assessment is complete, we advise on your visa pathway, points score, and EOI strategy — all in one place. No need to start over with a new provider.
Every RPL is written uniquely for you and checked with Turnitin before delivery. ACS uses plagiarism detection software — a copied report means a 12-month ban.
Choosing the wrong ANZSCO code is one of the most common reasons for rejection. We help you select the right occupation code before you write a single word.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your ACS RPL.
What is the difference between ACS RPL and a standard ACS skills assessment? +
A standard ACS skills assessment is for applicants who hold a recognised ICT qualification. The RPL pathway is for those without a formal ICT degree who need to demonstrate their skills through work experience and project evidence instead.
How long does it take to complete my ACS RPL? +
We deliver your first draft within 7–10 business days of receiving your completed intake form. Rush delivery is available — contact us to discuss.
What ANZSCO codes does ACS assess? +
ACS assesses a wide range of ICT occupations including Software Engineer, ICT Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Network Engineer, Database Administrator, Web Developer, Multimedia Specialist, and many more. We help you identify the right code for your experience before you begin.
What happens if ACS rejects my RPL? +
A rejected ACS RPL can result in a 12-month ban from reapplying if plagiarism is detected. For other rejections, you may reapply with an improved report. Our package includes 2 rounds of revisions before delivery to minimise this risk.
How long is my ACS skills assessment valid? +
A positive ACS skills assessment is valid for 24 months from the date of issue for visa application purposes.
What happens after my ACS assessment is approved? +
Once you have a positive ACS skills assessment, the next step is submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect for a skilled migration visa. As a MARA-registered agent, we can guide you through that entire process. Learn more about our migration services →
Do you also help with CDR writing for Engineers Australia? +
Yes. If you are an engineer rather than an ICT professional, you may need a CDR (Competency Demonstration Report) for Engineers Australia instead of an ACS RPL. View our CDR writing services →
